“I’ve got new rules and I count ‘em”
1. I will love technology.
· I will ensure that all HR operations are digitally managed.
· I will reach every employee individually, frequently and meaningfully, through digital communication.
· I will engage with the vast, exciting world outside of my company through all forms of digital media.
2. I will adopt this golden metric.
· I will measure profit per employee of my entire company and of all its important segments.
· I will design actions to improve profit per employee through increasing revenue and not just reducing employees.
· To do the above, I will understand the top three (no more) economic drivers of my business. If I don’t know them, I will find out.
3. I will embrace ‘Total Population Economics.’
· I will not start an HR analytics initiative that does not have an actionable insight on a profit improvement number in dollars.
· I will know the cost incurred and value created by each employee segment. (E.g. Bands, Grades, Divisions, Clients)
· I will know the price-value match of my top fifty business leaders.
4. I will believe that everyone is trying their best.
· I will believe that everyone’s intent is as good as mine.
· I will understand that even people who are not pulling their weight are trying their best.
· Appreciation and encouragement will form the basis of all my conversations.
5. Yet, I will remove all barriers to growth.
· I will be swift in removing people and processes that are coming in the way of the growth of business or people.
· I will believe that a lot of brilliant and diverse talent is in the market, waiting for opportunity.
· I will create a culture and an organization design that looks outside and seizes opportunities, and not one that obsesses about itself.
